Do you want to attend Convention 2007?
Would you like to attend the WPPA’s annual convention but feel that you can’t afford it? Are you from a small local and the budget does not include delegate fees for the annual convention? If the answer is “yes” to either of the above questions, read on.
Since 2003, representatives from small WPPA locals have been sponsored by large WPPA locals to attend the annual convention. Dale Marsolek from the Arcadia Professional Police Association was sponsored to attend the convention in 2004. In his letter of request, Marsolek, now a WPPA Director, wrote: “I believe it would greatly benefit this organization [Arcadia] as we are in the beginning stages of organizing, and the knowledge we could obtain would prove beneficial to our successful efforts. Further, I also believe that the future of the association [WPPA] is getting smaller locals to participate.”
Peshtigo Police Officer Arden Kuhn was sponsored to attend the 2005 convention. At the end of the convention, Kuhn wrote to his sponsoring local: “I hope that you and the rest of the association attendees enjoyed the conference as much as I did. I just wanted to let you know that I will be using the tools that I gathered at the conference to enhance not only our association but I hope to enhance and create a partnership with other locals ‘way up north.’”
WPPA Director Kathy Dorn, past president of the Dane County Deputy Sheriff’s Association, said, “We as an association are excited about bringing the ideas of the small locals into our organization. We believe the convention is a valuable tool for obtaining labor information . . . and a great place to network with other locals, both small and large.”
A sponsorship includes the registration fee and two nights’ lodging (Saturday and Sunday) at the Kalahari Resort.
