Convention 2005 Saturday Night Entertainment – Magician David Parr
David Parr is an actor, director, author, and magician who has been fascinated by the strange and mysterious since childhood. Among magicians, David is best known as the author of two best selling books for magicians, Brain Food and The Magic Mirror. His thought-provoking writings have been featured in leading magic journals, such as The Linking Ring, The Magic Menu, and Genii, as well as publications in Germany, France, Australia, and Sweden.
When David is not performing magic for corporate events and private parties, or presenting lectures and workshops for magicians, he devotes his time to theatrical endeavors. These generally share two important qualities: a distinctly offbeat sensibility and an emphasis on history or literature. Around Halloween, David can be found haunting stately old mansions with original shows such as Visions of Poe, an interactive journey into the tales and poems of Edgar Allan Poe, and Haunting History, a guided tour of the shadowy realm where history meets myth and folklore.
“I think we’re hungry for mystery in our lives,” says Parr. “We long for experiences that can’t be explained, that are beyond words. That moment of awe, of wonder, is what I strive to create for my audiences.” Having performed magic since he was a teenager, David has conveyed many moments of wonder to many people all over the world. Audiences at David’s performances can expect the unexpected: ordinary objects take on a will of their own, future events are predicted, hidden thoughts revealed. People may be called upon to test their powers of intuition or to solve an ancient puzzle.
“One of the qualities I enjoy most about magic,” Parr explains, “is that the audience participates in the performance. It’s not just a show, it’s an experience. And because every audience is different, every performance is different. That means there are always plenty of surprises——for the audience and for me!”
