The Law Enforcement Torch Run® is the largest grassroots fund-raiser and public awareness vehicle in the world for Special Olympics. Law enforcement officers from the 50 United States, 10 Canadian provinces and territories, and 35 countries carry the “Flame of Hope” in honor of the Special Olympics athletes.

In 2004, this international program raised more than $20 million to support Special Olympics programs. More than 90,000 law enforcement officers around the world carried the “Flame of Hope” across 35 nations, raising awareness and funds for Special Olympics. Wisconsin alone raised nearly $1.3 million with 1,322 officers representing 180 law enforcement agencies.

Wisconsin's Torch Run received two major awards at the 2004 International Conference in Arlington, Virginia, including fourth place in the “Highest Funds Raised Per Capita,” with 24 cents raised per resident in our state. Most significant was the achievement of raising $1,293,732.12, which placed Wisconsin as the third largest Torch Run Program in the world for the second year in a row.
