Wisconsin to Honor the Memory of its Fallen Law Enforcement
Officers in Capitol Ceremony

The 17th Annual Wisconsin Law Enforcement Memorial Ceremony will
be held at noon on Friday, May 18 at the State Capitol in Madison.
The names of four Wisconsin law enforcement officers will be added
to the memorial during the ceremony:
Deputies Carl “Cully” Johnson and Fred W. Scott
of
the Sawyer County Sheriff’s Department killed in a shootout
with a robber on June 17, 1939.
Deputy Charles Hanson
of the Calumet County
Sheriff’s Department
killed in
an automobile accident during a pursuit on July 14, 1968.
Deputy Steven Hahn
of the Eau Claire County
Sheriff’s Department
killed in an
automobile accident while transporting a prisoner to Jail on February
16, 2006.
The Memorial Ceremony will also include remarks from Governor
James E. Doyle and Attorney General J.B. Van Hollen. Since 1844,
over 220 law enforcement officers have been killed in the line
of duty in Wisconsin.
Those wishing to participate in the squad processional
from Olin-Turville Park to the Memorial are requested to arrive at
the park no later than 11:30 a.m. Prior to the ceremony, the WPPA
will again host a pancake and sausage breakfast at Olin-Turville
Park. The breakfast will be free of charge, although there will be
an opportunity for those attending to make a contribution to a local
food pantry. We will begin serving at 9:00 a.m., and we invite everyone
to attend.
