The classification will be determined by dividing by 6 the aggregate score of the last two (2) State Pistol Shoots that the shooter participated in, regardless of year. A person shooting for a second time will use their first score to establish the proper class. If the shooter is retired, note this on the entry form. A first-year shooter is listed as a freshman.
Freshman: A freshman is defined as a first-time shooter in their first WPPA State Shoot. A freshman may enter either in the Freshman Class or Class A. For team events, if he/she shoots as a team member, he/she will be classed as a Class C shooter with a 240 average.
Substitutes: Any local sending more than one team, but only one alternate, may use this alternate on any team to substitute in case of sickness or injury. The team’s classification will be raised if the alternate’s average raises it to a higher class. If the alternate’s average lowers the class, the team must stay in the original class. A shooter entered on one team may not shoot on another team.
Penalties: There will be a $5 penalty for each shooter late for a relay. A shooter who shoots before the command (whistle) to start or after the command (whistle) to stop will count the lowest 9 shots. The penalty being discounting the highest shot. The penalty must be marked on the score sheet and initialed by the referee or his designee at the time the target is scored.
Scoring: Procedure is up to the host local as approved by the Rules Committee at the Rules Meeting. Scoring will take place after each 10 shots, except for an alibi. Shooters will score the target of the shooter next to them as directed by the Range Officer. There will be no scoring of a target by a shooter from the same department or team member. The host local will list any 100s shot on the final score sheet.
