Executive Director’s Message
By Thomas W. Bahr
As we approach the WPPA’s 75th anniversary, the work of planning our next annual convention has already begun. The nearly unanimous request of our members and delegates attending this year’s convention was to again hold the 2007 convention at the Kalahari Family Resort in Wisconsin Dells. Please mark your calendar and make early arrangements to come and celebrate the WPPA’s 75th birthday on May 19 through 21, 2007.
I would like to thank all of our members from Madison and Dane County who volunteered to assist the WPPA staff in planning and presenting all the various events that made the 2006 convention a success. Such an undertaking could not be done without the assistance of our members, and I would urge those who would like to assist in our next convention to contact Judy Urso at our Madison office. This organization’s continued success is not dependent upon just a few members but rather the entire membership, and I urge all of you to take an active part in the various activities of the WPPA.
The WPPA members and delegates who attended the 2006 convention were able to meet the candidates running in both the gubernatorial and attorney general elections this fall. The results of these elections will undoubtedly have a direct and tangible effect on you and your employer in the coming years.
If ever there was a time to become part of the election process, this is the year. The forces that are affecting your ability to work and receive just compensation for the services you perform on behalf of your community have become more and more apparent. Please take the time to evaluate each candidate’s position on the issues and become part of the process rather than standing on the sideline. The work needed to bring resolution to the issues at the state legislature, which will have a direct impact on you and your family, require that we get directly involved. It is apparent by the candidates’ attendance at our convention that they greatly value the input and support of our members.
From all the staff at the WPPA, we hope that you and your family have a safe and enjoyable summer.
