2007 WPPA Bowling Tournament – Racine Dominates!
by Mark Nihoris, Waukesha Deputies Local 174

On March 30 and April 1, 44 bowlers competed in the 2007 WPPA Bowling Tournament hosted by the Waukesha Deputies Local 174. What seems to be a reoccurring theme is Racine Police Department taking first place in the Team Event! Waukesha Deputies finished in second place, and Dane County Sheriff #2 finished third.

Also dominating the field from Racine was Jeremy Opahle, who finished in first place in both Singles and All Events. Jeremy finished with a total of 2114 scratch. That’s a 234 average! Jeremy wanted to commute to Sussex to bowl every week after that series.

I was lucky enough to finish in second place for All Events; Chris Ireland from Waukesha Deputies took third place, and Glen Halberstadt from Racine finished fourth.

The Singles Event was won by Jeremy Opahle from Racine. Second place went to Jim Pizur from Greenfield, third place to Bruce Miller from Dane County, and fourth place to Vern Mueller from Eau Claire.

Chris Ireland and I won the Doubles Event, and I would like to personally thank Racine Police Department for allowing someone else to win something! (Just kidding guys.) Second place went to (who else) Racine's very own Jeremy Opahle and Glen Halberstadt. Finishing in third place were Tim Porn and Vern Mueller from Eau Claire.

Dane County will host the Bowling Tournament in 2008. If you have never bowled in this tournament, please consider coming next year. Remember, this is a handicap tournament (yes, even you have a chance), and I'm recruiting bowlers to beat Racine....
