WPPA Service Awards
Each
year at the annual convention, the WPPA recognizes those officers
and other public safety employees who epitomize the law enforcement
community’s outstanding tradition of service and dedication. Individuals
may be nominated for deeds or actions that occur between January
1 and December 31 of any calendar year. The deadline for nominations
is February 1 for the preceding year. The Awards Committee invites
you to send in your nominations for WPPA Service Awards.
Send
a letter of nomination identifying the individual or individuals;
why they should be considered for a WPPA Service Award; the date
of the occurrence, if any; and describe the event and its circumstances.
Copies of media coverage may be included and must show the name of
the newspaper and the date printed.
The
nominator should include his/her name, address, department, work
and home telephone numbers. Send your nomination and supporting
documentation to the WPPA Awards Committee, 340 Coyier Lane, Madison,
WI 53713.
Nominees
will be considered for the following awards, subject to the Committee’s
discretion.
AWARD FOR VALOR
This award:
- shall be presented to the officer or officers who have performed
in a manner that is above and beyond the call of duty.
- shall be only for members of the WPPA. Both the recipient of
this award and their home department shall receive a plaque suitably
engraved.
- may be made posthumously and may be presented to the recipient's
home department or representative so designated.
MERITORIOUS AWARD
This award:
- shall be presented to the officer or officers who have performed
in a manner that is within the realm of duty and have shown great
courage, ability, and devotion to police service.
- shall be only for members of the WPPA. The recipient of this
award shall receive a certificate suitably inscribed and the home
department of the recipient shall receive a plaque.
- may be made posthumously and may be presented to the recipient's
home department or any representative so designated.
OFFICER OF THE YEAR
This award:
- shall be presented to the officer who has conspicuously contributed
to a law enforcement agency or community in a manner recognized
by either.
- shall be only for a member of the WPPA. The recipient of this
award shall receive a plaque suitably engraved.
YOUTH AWARD
This award:
- shall be presented to a young person who has performed in an
heroic manner and assisted local law enforcement in the interests
of safety and the well-being of others. The recipient of
this award shall receive a plaque suitably engraved.
CERTIFICATE OF MERIT
This award:
- shall be presented to the officer or officers who have performed
a function or duty showing proper and correct use of police technique
in the best interests of police service.
- shall be a certificate suitably inscribed and shall be presented
by U. S. mail to the recipient.
- may be presented to any member of law enforcement within the
state of Wisconsin.
CITIZEN’S AWARD
This award:
- shall be presented to a citizen or citizens who have contributed
to local law enforcement and as a result have caused a service
to be achieved for the community.
- shall be a certificate suitably inscribed and shall be presented
by U. S. mail to the recipient.
The deadline for nominations is February 1 for the preceding
year.
